Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are right proud to offer this extremely hard to find Marlin Model 31 decked out in C grade finish. Made from 1914 to 1917, only about 4200 of all grades were made. The higher grades were only available upon special order, and this is one of those few guns. The C grade offered extra select walnut, fine hand checkering, and Ulrich brothers designed engraving. It shared a fully matted barrel and receiver with the standard model. A bonus for this gun is that it has an improved cylinder choke, which was only available on special order. These 16 gauge guns were made on a downsized version of the 12 gauge model 28. Considering this pump gun is over 100 years old, she is in good condition. Some storage neglect due to an aging owner is the only detraction on this shotgun. The walnut is all there, but has some crazing to the finish. The figure is gorgeous, and the checkering is fairly crisp. The steel has much original blue, with some freckling and pinprick pitting developing in small patches. The plated bolt and shell elevator has some losses to the plating. The bore of the 28 inch barrel is bright, and the stampings are all sharp and clear. The action is smooth and crisp, probably not seeing much use. The factory drops are 1 5/8 and 2 1/2 inches, with an LOP to the butt plate of 13 1/2 inches. She weighs in at about 6 3/4 pounds. She takes down in less than 10 seconds, and goes back together just as fast. If you have been looking for the right Marlin shotgun to collect or for investment, but want the added clout of a factory engraved high grade, then look no further.
