Description:
This 1977 vintage Winchester Model 9422M XTR rifle is a beautiful all-original gun with an exceptional factory Walnut stock set.  The 9422 lever-action rimfire rifle was first introduced by Winchester in 1972 and was produced for 32 years until 2004 in both .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum models.  It was a popular model in both calibers, and was well known for being very well made, reliable, accurate, and very attractive.  The 9422 lever-action repeater features a 20.5" inch round barrel with factory iron sights, 15 shot (LR) or 11 shot (Magnum) barrel-mounted tube magazine, and a straight-grip Walnut stock set (satin finish and high gloss options as well).  The early production guns had plain stocks while the later guns featured checkered stock sets.  This particular 9422M has the earlier un-checkered Walnut stock set with a high gloss factory finish.  As mentioned earlier, the Walnut on this gun is exceptionally nice with lots of figure and contrasting color in the grain.  The stock set is in excellent condition overall on this Winchester.  Outside of a few tiny little chips of outer finish missing the clear gloss finish is fully intact.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, gouges, repairs, or major dings.  Only under close inspection can one find some tiny handling marks and the little missing chips mentioned before that are primarily located on the keel of the stock near the toe.  The original factory Winchester Repeating Arms branded buttplate is intact and in excellent condition.  It is factory fit perfectly to the wood and is still tight to the gun.  The metalwork of this 9422M is in beautiful condition.  The original gloss blue finish is still bright, clean, and consistent, rating 98% excellent.  The only deductions from the finish come from some tiny marks on the grooved reciever where a scope has been previously mounted, and a tiny spot of finish wear under the lever where the lever makes contact with the tang (metal on metal).  It is obvious that this 9422M has spent the vast majority of it's life in a safe or in storage and not carried afield, as there are no carry marks on the reciever and it does not have sling mounts for shoulder carry.  The insides of this Winchester are just as clean as the exterior.  The bore is minty and bright with no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible, and the bolt face is pristine and could pass for being unfired.  The action is smooth and precise when worked by hand, and it goes into battery perfectly.  All of this rifle's controls work 100% like the day it left the factory in 1977.  If you have been looking for a collector quality Winchester 9422M .22 Magnum rifle for your collection this example would be an excellent choice.  It would be very hard to upgrade from this example.  These seem to get scarcer and scarcer every year and the prices continue to rise, so this should be an excellent long-term investment piece for any collection.
