Everything I've read, and every picture I've seen, and every measurement I can take, says that this is a real L.F & C M1918 Mark 1 knife. In addition to it looking right in all respects, and all of the dimensions being correct, this weighs within 2 grams of the specimen in the Imperial War Museums collection in England (though, to be honest, I do not know whether the forgers go to any trouble to match the weight of their products to the original). My father had quite a collection of bayonets (many of which are being offered for sale), and he knew his real bayonets from the fakes. Still, he was not infallible, so I'm being cautious here.
The blade is in like-it-just-came-out-of-the-factory blackened condition. Most of the chemical blackening of the handle remains, as well. This one's hilt is in its original shape, i.e., it does not have the WW2 modification.
Sadly, I did not find a scabbard in my father's collection.
