S/N 030. Highly desirable, this is the 30th gun produced by AYA in 2006.
Aguirre Y Aranzabal (AYA) No. 2 side-by-side shotgun in the Holland & Holland tradition and renowned as one of the most reliable sidelocks designs. 29" Barrels choked IC/Mod, 2 ¾” chambers. Hand-removal sidelock action with ejectors. Double trigger. Beautiful case-colored English Rose & Scroll engraving. Distinctive wood with checkered butt. All original; no modifications. LOP 14 5/8". DAC 1 1/2". DAH 2 1/2"
This smooth-handling (6lb.-2oz.) 20ga is in excellent condition with only slight handling marks under the stock and left barrel above the fore end. Bluing and case colors are excellent. Bore is bright and clear. The beautiful English engraving, very distinctive European wood and light use make this a handsome, once-in-a-lifetime purchase.

In the mid-50’s AYA stated to design and produce an ‘English range’ of shotguns specially made for the British market. The sidelock shotguns on which the ‘English range’ were based are a ‘Holland and Holland’ sidelock; considered to be among the finest examples of their type, ever. This became the basis of the classic AYA models – the Nº 1, the Nº 2, the Nº 4 and were the core of the AYA range.
These English range sidelocks offered a level of finish comparable to the best British guns at a fraction the price and it caused a sensation. Even today, English shotgun literature compares and espouses the merits of AYA sidelocks with the finest British made guns.
AYA advocates an ethic based on excellence in craftsmanship, where guns are made and put together by hand in a way which elevates each piece to that of a work of art, and more than that. AYA has taken on the mantel again as the leader in gun making in Eibar, Spain. By judicious investment in machinery and technology, AYA has not only become self-sufficient in the manufacture of parts for its own requirements, but it has also become the main supplier to the other firms in the area.
In this way, AYA is not only continuing a long tradition of gun making excellence, but it is also working to ensure that the whole of the Basque gun making industry can flourish in the future.
Since the 1950’s AYA has produced some of the finest side-by-side shotguns in the world. At the present time, AYA is celebrating over 100 years of gun making and positioning itself to continue a true legacy in the art of ‘finest’ shotguns.
A new AYA No. 2, with comparable wood and finish, will run almost double the cost of this fine piece.
