Second pattern example of the M1898/05 sawback sword or "butcher" bayonet, known as the n/A (neuer Art = newer model). 14.5" fullered blade. Right side of ricasso marked WAFFENFABRIK over MAUSER A.G. over OBERNDORF a.N. Spine of blade near crossguard marked Crown over W over 17, and Royal Cypher of Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm II of Prussia, who reigned 1888–1918; this bayonet was manufactured by Mauser in 1917. Scabbard on side opposite frog stud marked same as blade, that is, WAFFENFABRIK over MAUSER A.G. over OBERNDORF a.N, but additionally over an Iron Cross. No serial numbers anywhere. A few very minor dings, but overall excellent-plus throughout.
