Description:
The Hi Standard H-D Military has long been a favorite of .22 pistol collectors and shooters alike since it's introduction post-WW2 in late 1945.  While the name implies military use, it was a commercial model only and not made on U.S. contract.  Before the outbreak of WW2 Hi Standard had just introduced the H-D Model, their first model with an exposed hammer.  With World War 2 breaking out fewer than 700 were made before the firm had to concentrate production on military contracts.  When World War 2 finally ended Hi Standard decided to re-introduce the H-D Model, but add a thumb safety and call it the H-D Military to appeal to the many thousands of veterans.    It quickly earned a reputation for being a versatile pistol that was accurate, reliable, well-made, and attractive.  Offered in a 4.5" inch medium weight barrel or 6.75" inch medium weight barrel, the .22 LR H-D Military features a factory blue finish with checkered Walnut grips, an exposed hammer, a thumb safety, a slide stop, an adjustable rear sight, and a 10-shot magazine.  This example is serial number 228949 and is all-original and fully functional.  As you can see in the pictures the original factory blue finish shows some wear in the most common areas but overall has a very nice look to it.  The original checkered Walnut grips are still intact on this Hi Standard and are crack and repair-free.  The checkering shows some wear from use, and the lower right grip has worn smooth from mosty likely a left-handed holster.  The bore in this H-D Military is superb.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves, and there is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible.  The adjustable rear sight on this gun shows some damage to the left side but is still functional.  The action on this Hi Standard is smooth but still tight on the frame.  All of the controls work as they were designed to and the trigger is excellent, breaking with a light pull with no felt grit or sloppiness.  This H-D Military would be an excellent addition for someone looking for a cool and great looking vintage .22 pistol to carry afield or to the range to shoot.
