This is a pre-owned Civil War era American Machine Works Smith's Patent Carbine, a .50 caliber breech-loading percussion rifle based on Dr. Gilbert Smith's patent of 1857 which were often issued to Union calvalry units

Metal Condition: Color from case hardening still visible on reciever, original stampings still sharp, barrel blueing largely intact, universal brown patina on barrel band and butt plate and speckling over most metal surfaces
Wood Condition: Good overall with a number of scratches, dents and dings, no cracks or splits
Bore Condition: Mirror bright with good lands

Stock: Smooth walnut with crisp carcouch on the left side of the wrist
