Description:
This Smith & Wesson Model 19-4 was manufactured in 1978 and features a gloss-blue factory finish, a 4" inch pinned barrel, recessed cylinder chambers, factory adjustable target sights, and factory target-style checkered Goncola Alves grips.  It has been carried and used over the years but not abused.  The original factory blue finish shows some minor cosmetic wear in places and some minor handling marks but nothing major.  The worst of the finish wear is near the muzzle from being holstered, the drag-line around the cylinder, and some marring on and around the screw that holds the cylinder assembly in the frame.  There is still some factory color case hardening showing on the hammer and trigger, particularly in the more protected areas.  The bore is excellent in this Smith & Wesson.  It is clean and bright with nice sharp lands and grooves in the rifling.  The cylinder bores are equally as clean.  The original factory grips show some wear and tear but are free from any cracks, repairs, or chunks missing.  The checkering still has plenty of grip left in it despite showing some wear, and both sides are nice and tight to the frame.  One of the many reasons that these older S&W revolvers are sought-after is the hand-fit and hand-tuned action.  The action is nice and smooth, and is perfectly "in time" on this Model 19.  Despite the amazing advancements in machining and tolerances that have been achieved since this revolver was built you just can't replicate the "feel" of a vintage hand-fit Smith & Wesson action.  The cylinder locks up nice and tight, and the trigger is good whether worked in single or double-action operation.  The sight adjustments and cylinder release are in perfect working order.  If you have been looking for a top quality .357 Magnum revolver to carry in the woods or plink with, this 1978 Model 19-4 would be an excellent choice.  They just don't make them like this anymore.
