Description:
NSN, .42 Caliber, 4" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a brass frame pistol with central hammer. The barrel has an overall freckled plum-brown patina with some small areas of pinprick pitting visible, and has a spring-loaded, flip-up bayonet at the muzzle that has a 3" triangular blade with short fullers. The frame has a typical design motif on the right with a shield and stand of flags, and the maker's name on the left: “SUTHERLAND" (Ramsey Sutherland of Birmingham). The sliding trigger guard acts as the catch for the bayonet when stowed, and has a freckled gray patina throughout, as does the hammer. The bag-shaped walnut grip has some minor handling marks at the butt, as well as some with-the-grain cracks on either side where the wood meets the frame. The action is tight and fully functional (including the sliding safety bar to the rear of the hammer), as are the bayonet spring and latch. This is a very nice, British-made pocket pistol, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
