Description:
This is one of the last Walther PP's to leave the Walther factory.  In ther last stages of World War 2 when the Russians and Americans were closing in on the Walther factory, the Walther employees did their very best to put together as many guns as they could as quickly as possible.  There was no consideration to making sure each gun had matching serial numbers or were proofed.  The parts were put together and hand-fit well enough to function, that was all that they had time for.  These factory mis-matched guns are considered by collectors today as "Last Ditch" Walthers.  This particular pistol has a rough exterior that looks like it was definitely used in combat.  The "military blue" finish which was not very good to start with when it was new is now a brownish blue color and both the slide and frame show evidence of prior rust that has been removed.  While the exterior is rough the bore is excellent.  The bore is bright and appears to be free from any pitting or erosion, and the rifling is still nice and sharp.  This PP still has the original checkered Walnut grips on it that show a lot of wear but are structurally excellent.  The checkering is worn nearly smooth and the Walther "banner" is faint but still visible.  Both grips are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs and they are nice and tight to the grip frame.  This late WW2 Walther PP comes with one original and correct 8-round magazine that appears to have been with the pistol since it left the factory.  The exterior condition of the magazine is identical to the pistol.  This original magazine has the proper markings and appears to be fully functional.  All of the controls on this PP work as they were designed to including the safety/decocker.  The slide is nice and tight on the frame but works smoothly by hand.  This World War 2 bring-back should be an excellent shooter in addition to a neat piece of history for your collection.
