Description:
This vintage custom-cased Winchester Model 52-B Heavy Barrel looks like it came out of a time capsule from the 1950's!  The Winchester 52-B Heavy Barrel was made in 1949 and is all-original and in great shape, and comes complete with tons of period original accessories in the vintage luggage case including a factory Winchester single-shot adapter magazine.  This model was Winchester's top-of-the-line target-style bolt action .22 repeater.  It features a factory blue finish, a 28" heavy barrel that is factory drilled and tapped for Unertl scope blocks (which are installed), a factory "Speedlock" trigger, Redfield Olympic target sights,  a smooth Walnut heavy target-style stock with an adjustable front swivel mount in the forearm, and a factory checkered blued steel buttplate.  This rifle was designed to win matches when Winchester released it, and even today is still considered one of the finest production .22 target rifles ever made.  This example has 96% of the original factory matte blue on the receiver remaining, and 95% of the factory gloss blue finish remaining on the barrel and triggerguard.  The bore is in superb condition with no visible flaws or pitting.  The rifling is still prominent and clean.  The Redfield Olympic sights are in excellent shape overall.  The front globe-style sight shows some finish wear but is 100% functional.  The rear receiver-mounted Olympic adjustable peep sight is in excellent condition.  The factory finish is in great shape with only some minor finish wear/patina showing, and both the elevation and windage adjustments are in perfect working order.  The original factory stock is in very good condition.  The Walnut is solid with no cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  The wood shows some minor handling marks and light wear only.  The worst of the marring on the stock is on the bottom surrounding the triggerguard in the magazine area.  This can be seen in the pictures provided.  The action is tight to the stock and the adjustable front swivel mount and factory installed buttplate are in great shape and tight to the wood.  All of the controls on this Winchester work 100% like the day it left the factory 70 years ago.  The bolt is super smooth and locks into battery perfectly and the factory trigger is superb, breaking with a very light pull with no slop or grit.  The original factory 5-round magazine is still with the rifle and in perfect working order.  The rifle's serial number has been scratched into the front of the magazine.  The custom-fit vintage luggage case that this Winchester comes in is in great shape.  It has a brass plaque on the lid with the name "M. Volante" engraved on it.  The case has provisions to secure the rifle inside as well as posts with Unertl bases on them to store a scope off of the rifle.  There are also two additional bases mounted in the case to remove the front and rear Redfield sights and store them off of the rifle.  The case is full of stuff from the late 1940's to early 1960's.  There are a couple of sets of Rules and Regulations from target matches from 1948-49 and 1961-62, as well as old targets and a NRA Smallbore Rifle Rules pamphlet.  There is an original old Winchester hangtag that served as a mail-in order form for a free copy of "The Smallbore Rifle Handbook" when the rifle was purchased new.  Also in the main compartment there is a target-style leather sling for the rifle and a couple of old bottles of Hoppe's.  In the smaller compartment with a lid there are the following: Original Winchester Single-Shot Adapter Magazine in the original pouch, Redfield front sight inserts in the original packaging, a Henshaw Trigger Shoe in original package, A card pinned to the inside of the lid with the sight settings for different ranges, an eye patch with a broken strap, an old glass vial of grease, and some assorted odds and ends like a set of keys with the tag reading "keys to pistol range shack".  This complete outfit is really unique and cool, and we seldom have seen such a complete rimfire rifle package like this one.  If you have been looking for a one-of-a-kind Winchester 52-B Heavy Barrel rifle for your collection, this example in excellent condition with all the period -correct original match accoutrements would be a great choice.
