Circa 1840 BIRMINGHAM Antique FOWLER Shotgun

Here we present an antique Fowler Shotgun by W. Greener of Birmingham, Alabama, made circa the 1840s. Shotguns then, like today, were highly valued for provision, pest control and homestead defense. This one is equipped with a long 44-1/2 inch barrel with a .72 caliber bore.
The top of the barrel is marked “W. GREENER BIRMINGHAM”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The stock has seen its share of use. The bore is dark and smooth. The hammer will not stay in the cocked position.
