Description:
Here is a Blued M1911A1 Colt, shipped on Dec. 18, 1939 to the USN. Maybe it was at the Pearl Harbor a year later. Barrel is correct small G. Grips are full checkered walnut (they changed to plastic in 1941). Matching numbered slide, and two-tone magazine. (correct, and used up to mid-1943) This is one of the 3700 blued Navy Colts in existence. It is very rare and not easy to come by. Most of these Colts were heavily used during the early War before the rest of the industry (Ithaca, RR, USS and Singer) started the mass production in 1943. The Gov. didn't start putting inspector marks (RS, WB, GHD....) on the frames until 1940. From 1937 thru 1939, they only have the large P and H on the left side of frame. H is Fred Huff, a Colt civilian inspector at the time. This 1939 Colt is all original and in very good condition. Most of the wear is at front grip strap (wet hands!!)and a small spot by the ejection port. WWII Navy Colts are seldom seen for sale.
