SALE PENDING. An outstanding example of a 4 1/2” Colt Model 1862 Police with original ivory grips and beautiful, high condition blue and case hardened colors. This is serial number 31029 and that number matches on the barrel lug, frame, triggerguard and backstrap. The wedge and arbor also match with 1029 correctly stamped on them. The letters “IP” are stamped above the serial number on the barrel lug and below the serial numbers on the frame and backstrap. I’ve read that these letters designated ivory grips and nickel plated finish. However, I’ve seen several percussion revolvers with this stamping that have original blue finish. The ivory grips fit as they should with very minor shrinkage and a beautiful, creamy, mellow color. The blue finish is in remarkable condition with most of the blue remaining on the barrel and cylinder. The right side of the barrel has less than the left side. Most of the screws retain original fire blue. The case colors are bright and vivid on the sides of the frame, hammer and on the loading lever. The safety pins are all there and the nipples are undamaged. The action functions flawlessly and all factory markings are correct with Colts Patent lightly struck on the frame. This Colt 1862 has survived in remarkable condition and was likely not fired many times. Three day inspection privilege with a full refund if returned in same condition, unfired and undamaged.
