Description:
According to the Colt Book Of Engraving by R.L. Wilson, this is one of only 80 factory engraved guns produced in this model. Serial number 23730 is confirmed by the accompanying factory letter as a .38/c, with a 4 1/2” barrel, nickel finish, pearl stocks factory engraved and shipped to Simmons Hardware in St. Louis, MO on January 21, 1893 in a shipment of 2 guns. The engraving is the work of Cuno Helfricht, who was the master engraver at the Colt factory during this period. The factory applied markings are all clear and strong. The cylinder has dings on the edges of some of the flutes. The action is perfect and the bore is very good. The hammer, trigger and most of the screws have bright fire blue on them. The pearl grips fit very well and are not missing any corners. I’ve only seen a couple of factory engraved Colt 1889 Models for sale over many years.
