Description:
This is a very rare and hard to find Winchester Model 1895 slabside rifle in .40-72 WCF. The rifle was made in 1896 and is still in very good antique condition. The 26 inch round barrel has very good blue with an even brown patina starting to build. The flat sided receiver has very good blue with the milling lines present. The lever is a one piece unhinged early style as it should be. The walnut stock is in very nice condition with a few dings and a small sliver missing on the left side by the upper tang. The wood has most of the factory finish remaining. The forearm shows frontier marks and has an ebony insert into the schnabel. The bore is very good with a few old pits that should not have an effect while shooting.Less than 7000 1895’s were made with slabsides and very few were in .40-72 WCF. It may be years before another rifle like this comes to market.
