Description:
This Steyr Model 1895 rifle is all-original, all-matching, and is NOT import marked.  It most likely came to this country during or after World War 2 as a "war trophy" with a U.S. soldier.  We rarely see all-matching and original M95s, with examples not import marked even more scarce.  This Steyr Model 1895 Stright-Pull Military rifle was manufactured in 1915 and went into Austrian Military service during World War 1.  The Austrian military acceptance stamp is on top of the barrel just ahead of the receiver (while the stamp is somewhat obscured by the overstamp "S", it is still legible).  After WW1 ended it remained in Austrian hands and was converted from 8x50mmR to the more powerful 8x56mmR "S" cartridge.  The conversion was marked on the rifle by a large "S" stamped on the barrel ahead of the receiver.  It probably served with the Austrian police or military until the outbreak of World War 2.  In World War the M95 was a second-line rifle issued to non-combat troops at first, but as the German's fortunes changed and they started experiencing shortages of weapons and material the M95 was issued to combat troops.  The Volkstrum (German People's Army/Home Guard) in particular were issued a large number of these Steyr M95s.  Whether this particular example was used by one of these Germans there is no way to know for sure, but it is certainly a strong possibility.  This Steyr still has it's original factory finish on it which shows a lot of wear, but has a nice consistent gray-blue patina to it.  As you can see from the pictures, the whole rifle has a great combat-used original look to it.  All of the numbered parts on this Steyr are original matching.  The only part that appears to have been swapped by the Austrians or Germans is the stock, and it is stamped-matching to the rifle, this was likely done when the rifle was converted to 8x56mmR.  There is a close-up picture provided of the stock serial number.  The stock is in godd shape for a combat used rifle more than 100 years old.  The wood shows lots of minor dings, dents, and scratches, with one small crack on the top of the buttstock just ahead of the buttplate.  There is a close-up picture of this crack which also shows the Unit-marking on the buttplate.  This unit marking was likely from World War 1 service that was never removed.  This M95 appears to be in perfect working order.  All of the controls work properly, and the bolt locks into battery cleanly as it was designed to.  The bore in this Steyr is in good shape overall.  While the bore shows some light pitting in the grooves, the lands in the rifling are nice and strong throughout.  We have no doubt that this Steyr would be an excellent shooter.  If you have been looking for a neat new addition for your military rifle collection that has a ton of World War 1 and 2 history, this Steyr M95 would be an excellent choice.  We just dont get rifles like this one very often!   ALSO AVAILABLE: Original boxed ammunition for this rifle. Many of the boxes and stripper clips are stamped with a Nazi Waffenamt.  It comes 10 rounds to a box on two 5-rd stripper clips.  Price per box is: $15 w/o Waffenamt / $20 w/Waffenamt
