Antique COLT Single Action Army in RARE .32 S&W
Old West Six-Shooter Made 1893!
Here we present an antique Colt Black Powder Frame Single Action Army Revolver in .32 S&W, manufactured in 1893 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt SSA was introduced in 1873 and has become one of the most iconic firearms in all of history, thanks to its widespread use by the U.S. military, civilians and, more recently, in Western films. According to Flaydermans, there were only 32 of these revolvers manufactured in 32 S&W, making it extremely rare!
Though Colt enjoyed the largest contracts of any handgun maker during the American Civil War, it had to rely on its array of percussion fired revolvers, namely the 1860 Army until the Smith & Wesson owned Rollin White Patent expired in 1869. This enabled them to begin making revolvers with completely bored through cylinder chambers in order to utilize modern metallic cartridge ammunition in the most effective manner. In 1869, Colt began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians.
The overall condition is very good. Traces of the original blue finish remain with a dark gray patina making up the balance. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match. The trademarked hard rubber grips are in very good shape with a small chip out of the top of the right panel. The bore is in fine shape, bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a fantastic Colt Single Action Army in rare .32 S&W!
