Description:
Sold...A fine original silver corps badge, Civil War period of Lt. Anthony Taylor who served with the 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, Co. A. Taylor won the Medal of Honor for courage and bravery at the Battle of Chickamauga. Taylor also carried the dispatch that was responsible for the capture/interception of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. This badge looks to have been made by a jeweller of the period while he was a Lt. He mustered out as a Captain. The T style pin of German silver on back is proper for that period of construction. Very finely engraved and appears to have been worn also. This pin was probably presented to him in 1863 or 1864. The pin is exactly the same diameter as a Morgan silver dollar, only much thinner, very finely crafted! A stunning and historical badge in several ways! Lots of Information of him online.
