Pre-WWI Dated German DWM 1910 LUGER Pistol
With Unit Markings
Here we present an Imperial German DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Pistole Parabellum 1908 Military Luger Pistol, made circa 1910 in Berlin. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The P.08 is the pistol carried by German troops during World War I and II and is perhaps the most associated with those events. It is one of the most iconic pistols in history.
The front grip strap bears “4.R.D.1.8” suggesting it was issued to the 4th Reserve Dragoons in the German Army formed in August 1914 weeks after the start of WWI.
The overall condition is good. Traces of the original blue finish remain with the remainder gaining a gray patina. Markings are clear. Number match with the exception of the magazine base. Wooden grips show wear but remain solid. The bore is in good shape with nice rifling. The action is excellent.
