Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Beautiful James Purdey & Sons 12 bore sidelock with sculpted fences and great engraving on the frame and lockplates. Cased in a leather case with brass corners and maker’s label. This great game gun, no. 11980, weighs 6lb 12oz and has been nitro reproofed for 2-3/4” cartridges. Made in 1884 it has the classic self-opening action and is No. 2 of a pair. It is tight on face and in great mechanical condition.  ***   The 30” nitro steel barrels are topped by a solid concave game style rib. The rib is inscribed “J. Purdey & Sons Audley House South Audley Street London Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. The right barrel is bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.011 for Quarter choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. The left barrel is also bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.024 for Half choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.023. The non-ejector barrels were nitro reproofed for 2-3/4” chamber and 1-1/8 oz of shot.   ***   The straight grip stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured walnut. The checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-3/4” to a checkered butt by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the right hand shot.   ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described. This is a great well made Purdey with outstanding wood that will perform well on game and clays. It is your chance to own a classic game gun from one of the world's greatest gunmakers.  I believe it is the best value you will find on a classic Purdey anywhere. Isn't it time to reward yourself?  ***   We are pleased to announce that noted British firearms author DONALD DALLAS will be at our booth the same weekend autographing and selling his books and answering your questions about British double guns.
