Description:
RARE. ORIGINAL NOT REFINISHED. While Colt produced about 17,000 Military 1911's in 1912 (first year produced), they produced only 1799 Commercial models (://sightm1911/1911Production.htm). The second year (1913) saw only 3500 pistols (compared to over 40,000 Military).
In 1914 the Commercial pistols started with SN# 5400. A total of 12,200 Commercial 1911's were made in 1914. This pistol is SN 5853 - the 453rd Commercial pistol produced in 1914 - so it's most likely a mid-January 1914 pistol. They don't come much earlier.
I've taken many pictures and you can see the original bright polished finish is excellent - doesn't have the rust spots seen on most (even some 99%) pre-WWI pistols you see. There is the usual finish loss on the back of the grip area but the front of the grips (usually spotted/losses from sweat) is amazing. Pictures tell story. The recoil spring guide in pics has been replaced w period correct one. Barrel Is later MB marked Match Barrel . Everything else looks original to me. Lanyard loop correct ("type 3") magazine is similar excellent condition.
