Here we present a J.P. Sauer & Sons 38H Police Marked Pistol, made circa 1943. The Model 38 was introduced in 1938 with the “H” designating it as a “hammerless” action. It was made up until the end of World War II, when Germany was finally defeated and the factory closed down. One of the very modern and neat features of this pistol is the cocking and de-cocking lever on the left side of the frame. Yes, you can either use the double action to pull the trigger or push down the lever to put this gun into single action mode.
The left side of the trigger guard is marked “EAGLE/C”, the mark of the German Police at this time. The right side of the frame is marked “EAGLE/N”. The left side of the slide is marked “J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL/CAL.7.65”. The right side is marked “PATENT” and includes the importer mark “SSME PLANT CTY FL”.
The overall condition is near fine. The blue finish is 85% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is bright. The grips are in great shape. The magazine is not numbered to the gun. The action on this pistol is excellent.
