Description:
Sold Pending Funds / Smith Civil War Saddle Ring Carbine, by Mass Arms Co. serial #17772, cal. 50, part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore having light oxidation at the throat. The barrel retains about 90% original blue with freckling and minor scattered fine oxidation. The case-hardened barrel and frame retain about 75%+ mellowing original case colors muting to a mottled gray-brown. The frame is appropriately marked Manufactured BY/ MASS. ARMS CO./ CHICOPEE FALLS, the left barrel flat is unmarked, saddle ring present. All markings remain crisp and clean and major parts are numbered alike. The walnut stock and forend rate very good with a few shallow dents and handling marks, there are two cartouches visible, one is stamped AJN the other JM who I believe is John Maggs active in 1862 during the American Civil War who accepted firearms and accessories on behalf of the Federal Army. This carbine functions correctly.  Overall a nice Smith Carbine in good plus plus - very good condition. Inv.: # 22-179
