SOLD Pending funds / Burnside 5th Model Civil War Saddle Ring Carbine, serial # 17214, above the serial number on the receiver is stamped “BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864", cal. 54, has a 21" barrel with a dark bore showing strong rifling with some light oxidation and peppery pitting in the lands. The metal on the barrel and triggerguard retain 92%+ original blue with some oxidation and what appears to be minor surface rust on the edge of the guard. The sides of the receiver have a good amount of case colors, please view all Photo's. The lockplate is faintly marked “BURNSIDE RIFLE CO. / PROVIDENCE, R.I.” and retains hints of original finish. The buttstock and forend rate good plus plus to very good with some minor handling marks but nothing alarming or drastic, the left side of the stock has two cartouches one stamped "EPK?" the other "TKW?", and forward of the buttplate "?KW". The mechanism operates smoothly and the lock remains crisp. As described and photographed a nice Burnside Carbine in good plus - very good condition. Inv.: # 22-181
