Nicely ENGRAVED “Weiland” Percussion Target Pistol
Manufactured In Cassel, Germany, circa 1850
Here we present an antique Friedrich Weiland Percussion Target Pistol, manufactured circa mid-19th century in Cassel. Cassel (Kassel) is the major city in the German state of Hesse-Cassel. This state is where the Revolutionary War “Hessian” mercenaries originated from.
This would have been a step above the rest in its day. It features a single set trigger, nice checkering, gold inlays and the beautiful engraving. It would very likely have been used for target purposes.
The overall condition is good. Gold inlays are 95%. Markings are clear. Engraving is excellent. Small repair at the tang. The walnut stock is in good condition with a repair on the portion under the barrel. Bore is fine, clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent.
