Description:

Chieftain/Stallion “U.S. PROPERTY” Marked M1911 Pistol

Early Production 1911 Government Model

Here we present a Model 1911 U.S. Army Pistol. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status almost immediately. The Colt model M1911 series of pistols is one of the most successful small arms designs of the 20th century, and in all of modern warfare history, for that matter. The handgun has been produced in quantity in the United States, Argentina, and Norway (the latter two under license production as the M1914 and the M1927 respectively) and was fielded in both World Wars and many of the major and minor conflicts of the century, eventually becoming a commercial success for the Colt enterprise. The Colt M1911 continues service in many forms today and is still a favorite among sporting, security, and casual gun lovers all over the world.

This pistol has had the original grips replaced with a Western theme that features a Native American in a full headdress and a horseshoe with a horse through the center of the horseshoe.

It is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on the left side of the frame. The right side of the slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY”. The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902/DEC.19, 1905. FEB.14, 1911. AUG.19, 1913” with a rampant colt in the middle, then “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”

The overall condition is fine. This pistol was very nicely refinished, showing nearly complete high polish blue finish. The markings are clear. The grips are in excellent condition. The bore is fine with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a handsome 1911 with lots of character and World War history!
