Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1927, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, Chokes M/F, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 3/4"
Serial Number: 362476

Ansley H. Fox got it right when he designed the Fox 16ga. gun on the 20ga. receiver.  Fox 16-gauge guns are invariably light and well balanced, much more so than other American makers of the day.  Parker made a few of their 16’s on the “O” frame that was designed for their 20ga. gun, but they are far and few between and you pay a large premium when you find one.  Most will agree the Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. is the best value for a small gauge American double gun in today's marketplace.  This fine Fox, sn362476 made in 1927, WAS BUILT WITH HIGHLY DESIRABLE 30” NUMBER 3 WEIGHT BARRELS AND  remains in factory original, unmolested condition with 98% barrel blue, most all the original wood finish, and about 85% VIVID BOLD FACTORY CASE COLOR, perfect screws, and not a split or crack anywhere.  The bores are excellent, the 30” M/F barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun and the ribs are tight.  The chambers have been lengthened to 2 ¾” and the forcing cones have been lengthened to a 1 ½” taper (a $250 service) which will noticeably soften felt recoil to you and the gun’s stock while providing better patterns because of fewer deformed pellets.  THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  We stripped the action to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned the action and parts to bare clean metal, inspected all for function and integrity, then properly lubricated and reassembled the gun.  This is a service that costs $275 in our shop.  Most of these old guns have never been cleaned or haven’t been cleaned in decades, the old oil is dried like varnish, and there is debris and rust inside most of them.  Not having to worry about the interior of the action is a valuable service we perform on most of the guns we sell.  Who else does that, especially with a 90-day mechanical warranty?  This gun has a lot going for it, including a full length stock to a factory buttplate, a Philly made gun, and a ton of original condition.  At 6lbs. 4oz. and balanced to perfection, it is a delightfully nimble shotgun that is fast to shoulder.  This gun is perfect for carrying over hill and dale after your favorite upland game and will do well at your vintage clays games as well.  IT IS EXTREMELY RARE TO FIND A 30” BARRELED 16GA. THAT IS THIS LIGHT!  You will not likely see another like it…ever!  If you look over the photos well and consider the details written here and below in our specifications, you will find this Sterlingworth to be the best buy available today.  Don’t hesitate as guns like this sell quickly.  Thanks for looking!
