Description:
Seldom seen factory nickel Pre-70 Series Colt Super 38 Automatic Pistol. The serial number dates production to 1957. Douglas Sheldon's book "Colts Super 38" estimates the number of post war nickel Super 38's to be 1% to 2% of total production. This gun is in excellent condition with very light scattered freckling as shown in the photos. A Colt archive letter is included and verifies the nickel finish. The box is correct for a nickel Colt Super 38, but sadly not original to the gun. The correct 1957 box would have had a green interior and woodgrain bottom, "Style III". This box has a black interior and bottom indicating a "Style IV" box (circa 1967 and newer). Someone has also blacked out the original serial number on the underside of the box. These guns almost never come up for sale and are extremely difficult to find in any condition. As always, "reasonable" inspection period comes with all my sales.
