The C Grade Fox is considered by most to be one of the most handsome of the A.H. Fox Graded guns, with its finely cut English scroll, game scene engraving, and nicely engraved trigger guard.  The C Grade shipped with European walnut figured well on both sides of the stock and was the first level of decoration that is considered a high-grade Fox.   Many guns offered for sale lack any real information on which to base a decision.  A shotgunner should want to know specifics…stock dimensions, choke constrictions, minimum wall thicknesses, weight, balance point, trigger pulls…in addition to what the gun looks like in the pics.  In fact, most of the photos show no real details of the gun.  Don’t you want to know what you are buying?  A lot of bad things happen to vintage guns over time, and most offered for sale at low prices have a ton of drop at heel and comb, making them impossible to shoot well for most shooters.  These guns cost a good bit of money, and making wise decisions requires adequate information.  This fine A.H. Fox CE, sn33210 made in 1929, is an exceptional two-barrel set, each set complete with its own beavertail forend.  The action has beautiful engraving, the awesome Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger, and ejectors, all in superb mechanical condition.  THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, THE ACTION AND FOREND IRON HAVING BEEN STRIPPED, ULTRASONIC CLEANEDSCRUBBED, INSPECTED FOR FUNCTION AND INTEGRITY, PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED (A $275 SERVICE).  VFI CERTIFIED GUNS COME WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  The set is cased in a canvas and leather case that has been custom fit to the Fox to eliminate movement and wear and has all the accessories and a leather Fox trade label.  The gun shipped with the 30” barrels as a Philadelphia made gun, and later was sent back to the Fox gun company while under Savage ownership to have the second set of barrels, beavertail forends, and single selective trigger added.  I know this by looking at the Savage proof marks on the 26” set of barrels, the serial numbers stamps, and the machining and serial number stamps on the forend wood.  The 26” barrels are true SKEET IN/SKEET OUT barrels, as the right barrel is actually flared a bit much like a Winchester WS-1 choke.  The 30” set of barrels are choked IM/F.  Both have double ivory beads and excellent bores.  Both sets of barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun with the lever well right of center.  The ribs are tight as well.  The beautifully figured European walnut stock has modern dimensions and terminates in a vintage Hawkins butt pad (most all target-oriented guns left the factory with rubber pads).  YOU WILL FIND THE SPECIFICATIONS IN THE TABLES BELOW.   With the rising popularity of the vintage sporting clays games, a fine Fox CE Grade with two sets of barrels set up for skeet, sporting clays, and trap, complete with SST, beavertails, and ejectors, superbly cased, is a very desirable Fox.  The same 2-barrel set is a versatile hunting gun as well, able to handle grouse in the woods with the skeet barrels, all the way out to late season pheasants and turkey at the longest ranges.  We all should have at least one great 12ga. Fox in our quiver, and this one is set up for shooting everything imaginable with one 2-barrel set.  Thanks for looking!
