A fine boxlock non-ejector double rifle by Frederick Beesley (of Purdey’s), chambered in .303. The barrels are 26″ with excellent bores. The firing pins are bushed and removable. The action features acanthus scroll engraving along with the maker’s name. Hints of case colors are still present. The bolstered fore-end has a lever release. The pistol grip stock measures 14 1/2″ over a horn butt plate. The weight is 9 lbs 11 oz. This handsome rifle appears to have seen very little use, and locks up like a vault. It is regulated for 38 grains of riflelite (an early flake powder). The previous owner did not have an opportunity to shoot it very much. He told me he had assumed it would do best with 215 grain round nose bullets, but discovered to his surprise that it shot quite well with 150 grain Federal factory ammo. In any case, an exceptional rifle. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Frederick Beesley (from Purdey's) Model: Double Rifle Caliber Info: .303 |
