Description:
SOLD..Antique 1876 Winchester. Here is a pretty decent 1876 Winchester. S/N 29472 and was made in 1882. Only less than 64,000 every produced in this model so these are in limited quantity. Has the standard 28” octagon barrel. It is in the very accurate and desired 45-60 caliber. This is the best shooting caliber in an 1876. The bore is good and very shootable with strong rifling. NO rings or bulges and just shows the normal roughness from black powder. Hard to find bores much better than this in these no finish 1876's. Most of these guns where very heavily used and abused. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly.. No backed out primers or bulged cases. I have owned this rifle for many years and have shot it quite a bit.. It shoots very well and is still accurate.. Both hammer notches and all the springs are correct and strong. The metal is a faded dark brown patina with no finish showing. It shows a little pitting around the barrel address as you can see and some light pitting on the front of the receiver and dust cover. {see photos}.. The rest of the gun is smooth with no other pitting. The markings are all very good including the caliber markings on the barrel and the brass carrier. Has the original dust cover that is loose and should be opened by hand so it will not bind the action from the bolt sliding under the cover. This is the reason you find so many 73's and 76's with no dust cover as when they got loose, they were removed from the gun completely. The Henry and the 66's never had a dust cover and many of these very early 76's had no cover unless special ordered. The screw heads are all very good and not burred up and completely serviceable. Still has the original front and rear sights with the rear being the adjustable ladder type and is marked 1876. The wood is pretty nice. The forearm has no splits or cracks and fits tight to the metal. Shows a couple honest dents and scratches but no abuse. Some varnish added in later years at one time. The butt stock is nice as well fitting very good to the metal. A couple very small and minor grain splits off the lower and upper tang. {see photos} They are both solid and not worth mentioning but I like to give complete and honest description. I can send you close up photos of these if you can not see them in the photos.. Some varnish added in the past as on the forearm as mentioned. Not much else to say about this one. A nice looking ole 76.. A very decent collector and or shooter at a reasonable price. Completely honest with all original parts and not messed with. Never abused and getting hard to find much cheaper than this AND are still shooters with good bores, ect.. $50 insure shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. LIABILITY... I have shot this gun many times and it functions perfectly but I have to say I will NOT be responsible for people that do not know how to load and operate antique firearms.
