Description:
The Enfield No.2 Mk.1** Service Revolver chambered in the .380 Mk.IIz cartridge was one of the British Army's primary sidearms during World War 2.  Originally adopted by the British Army in 1931 as the Enfield No.2 Mk.1, the design was first changed in 1938 to be double-action only with a spur-less hammer and was called the No.2 Mk.1*, then changed again in 1942 for the final time with some simplifications for faster production and called the No.2 Mk.1**.  Due to the very high demands for small arms production on the Enfield company during WW2 that they could not keep up with, the British Military contracted the Albion Motors Company to produce a run of the No.2 Mk.1** revolvers.  The Albion Motors Co. was a Scottish automobile and commercial truck manufacturer with no prior experience in making firearms.  Much like many of the American firms that produced the M1 Carbine with no prior weapons production history, Albion was able to get the proper equipment and train their employees to successfully make the revolver in time, which was no small feat.  By the end of World War 2 in 1945 the Albion Motors Company had produced approximately 24,000 of the Enfield No.2 Mk.1** revolvers for the British Military.  Compared to the Enfield firm Albion Motors was a very small producer of this pistol, with Enfield making making approximately 250,000 of this model!  While the Albion Motors examples are generally considered not as nicely made or finished as the Enfield examples by collectors, the small production numbers make them a very sought-after and scarce gun today.  This particular 1943 dated example is NOT import marked and is all-matching, all-original, and in excellent condition.  In all likelihood it was shipped into the U.S. during WW2 by a U.S. soldier or brought back to the States by a U.S. soldier at the end of the war.  As you can see in the pictures this revolver only has the original Birmingham Proof House "Crown over NP" and "Crown over BP" proofs.  It does not have any of the export proofs of "Crown over BNP" required by British law for a weapon being exported to another country.  The original factory black finish rates a solid 97%, and the bore is in excellent condition with no pitting and sharp rifling still showing.  The cylinder bores are equally as clean as the barrel and free from any damage, and the factory original grooved black plastic grips are in excellent condition.  The double-action only operation of the revolver is perfectly "in time" and the cylinder locks up tight.  All of the controls and functions on this Enfield No.2 Mk.1** are in absolutely perfect working order.  If you have been looking for a superb and special example of the Enfield No.2 Mk.1** for your World War 2 weapons collection this is it.  It would be next to impossible to find a better non-import marked example of this important British Military revolver!
