Engraved Richard HOLLIS FLINTLOCK Belt Pistol
English Flintlock Made Circa 1817
Here we present an antique Richard Hollis Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1817 in England. Richard W. Hollis was a Birmingham on Loveday Street and then Staniforth Street in the first half of the 19th Century. This pistol features a large .60 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt by the hook on the left side. The top of the barrel is marked “LONDON” as it was very likely the city from which it was sold and a very recognizable name for international buyers if it was destined for export. This is a really neat pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels.
The overall condition is near fine. The iron parts are dark with age. The markings are clear. The stock is smooth and solid. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is crisp.
