Description:
SOLD...Antique 1861 Colt Navy Conversion to .38 CF. A rare and nice Colt 1861 Navy conversion to .38 Long Colt center fire Black Powder only... S/N 7326. All matching with the cylinder having the matching number on the rear face as is totally correct with these conversions. Read the excellent book by the late Bruce McDowell to understand everything about these conversions. Just too much information to list here... The gun has the standard 7 1/2” barrel. Converted to .38 Long Colt center fire. The bore is near excellent and mostly bright and shiny with some scattered minor roughness. No rings or bulges. The cylinder chambers are excellent and bright as well. The mechanics are excellent. Tight and crisp as a new gun. Rock solid barre to frame fit and wedge. All hammer notches are correct and perfect also. This gun is tight as new all around. The barrel to frame fit is still so tight that the barrel just does not pull off when you remove the wedge. You have to remove the barrel with a wooden dowel through one of the cylinder chambers it is still that tight like new.... The markings are all very clear and readable. The metal has very good traces of blue finish on the barrel around the wedge on both sides as you can see in the photos. Also some blue on the bottom of the barrel lug by the S/N. Traces of case colors are visible on the right side of the frame around the loading gate spring screw as you can see. Also case colors on the bottom of the frame at the S/N … The ejector rod and head are later replacements. The housing may be also but nothing altered to the barrel at all. It matches very well in color and it fits perfectly so if it is a replacement, it is very well done and hard to tell. It works perfectly also. The balance of the gun is a gray patina with some light pitting on the cylinder only. The grips are very nice with NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory fit to the gun. Some very minor and honest toe and heel wear and some dings on the bottom.. All the screw heads are excellent and not burred up from tinkering. This is a nice 61 Colt conversion with a little finish for the money. You won't find one any tighter than this one.!!!! Would make an excellent shooter and collector. Very few of these were ever made and a lot you will find have cut off barrels and are in very rough condition. A lot of them were nickel plated also which makes the blue and case colored ones a bit more rare. Some are found in very high condition and cost lots of thousands of dollars. I like the ones in this condition as a kinda middle of the road and are still reasonably priced with a little finish and not the beat up brown ones that are all loose and worn out. If this one don't sell, I will keep it myself for a great shooter as all the ones in my collection have way to much finish to be playing with... Shop and compare, then call me !!!! $30 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. LIABILITY...
