Description:
A really nice transitional model incorporating some of the best of the older features (brass counter and brass rotor) with handy tang safety not the less convenient lever safety. Absoutely free of the normal crack at the upper tang. Only normal handling marks reflecting light careful use. Most sought and considered by many to be the most handsome of 99's is the lightweight (F) model. Factory drilled and tapped for scope and has Weaver type 2 piece bases correctly mounted in factory holes and see thru rings. In 1960 Savage relocated from their former home in Chicopee Falls Mass to Westfield Mass. The Barrel on this gun is marked Chicopee but it incorporates the later tang safety which came into use in 1960 so it may have been produced in either location (?) Both butt stock and forend have very sharp original hand checkering and finish with recoil pad added.
Own a classic and usable piece of history, these are becoming increasingly hard to find in this cal and model (Featherweight). This is the classic combination in Savages own caliber 300 Savage which is balistically similar to with a little less umph than 308 win.
Rear site elevator is not correct but should be easy to find the correct one if desired.
