Description:
General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1909, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 11oz, M/F, LOP 13 3/4" from rear trigger, DAH 2 1/2", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 210688

The L.C. Smith Pigeon Grade was a low production gun from the hay days of the American double shotgun.  With just 1350 guns produced in 12ga., the Pigeon Grade is a "Pre-1913" Elsie with special attention to detail not found in standard production guns from Hunter Arms.  The barrels/action were purpose-built to provide the extra strength required for heavy loads used for competitive live pigeon shoots with great attention paid to boring and choke to produce the best patterns.  Additionally, the locks were hand honed to perfection for the fastest lock time possible.  This gun, sn210688 made in 1909, retains 93% strong factory case color, all original parts, and is eye candy with its figured French walnut stocks finished in a BEST ENGLISH STYLE hand-rubbed oil finish, perfect checkering, and Purdey Style leather covered pad with double welts at the bottom edge.  The engraving is clear and sharp, and the bird scenes are far superior to any presently offered for sale.  Most Pigeon Guns were used hard having little finish remaining or have been substantially altered in one way or another.  Don’t confuse this gun with the few others that are presently offered for sale on the internet, as I have looked at them and most have been restocked and do not have all factory original parts. This Elsie is an exception, retaining most all its original factory finishes on the action, forend iron, and trigger guard.  The barrels have been expertly rust blued with no loss of detail to engraving or rib matting, and the decorative solid gold inlay is still present near the breech.  The L.C. Smith Pigeon Gun was given special attention to shooting characteristics and handling, as the company's reputation was made on the success of the competitors.  With tons of case color, unaltered bores, chokes, and chambers, gorgeous wood, perfect screws and mechanics, this gun is an exceptional investment quality gun that would be the perfect Trap and Sporting Clays gun.  Weighing 7lbs. 11oz. and balancing dead on the hinge pin, the gun will swing smoothly and felt recoil will be minimal.  Built on the regular frame, she will withstand many thousands of rounds with no mal affects, and would be deadly for doves, or with heavy loads for late season birds and turkeys in the spring.  What a fine Elsie that could be yours!  Thanks for looking.
