Markings: The serial number is marked on the right side of the frame. The left side of the slide is engraved with "PEARL HARBOR . CORAL SEA . CORREGIDOR / GUADALCANAL . TARAWA . SAIPAN . LEYTE GULF . IWO JIMA . OKINAWA . TOKYO" bordered with palm leaves and with palm leaves at the rear of the slide. The right side of the slide is engraved with "WORLD WAR II COMMEMORATIVE / PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS" bordered with palm leaves and with palm leaves at the rear of the slide. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT .45 AUTO" and with "VP" in triangle proof.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade fixed to the slide and the rear sight is a square notch dovetailed into the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth light walnut panels with gold colored Colt medallions in their centers and blemish free.

Mechanics: The action as new is stiff and tight. The bore was lightly swabbed to remove dust.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a hinge-top wooden presentation case with a glass window over a green felt-lined drawer containing the pistol and seven dummy nickel rounds of .45 ACP Ammo, and includes the key for the case. The case is made of light walnut in a bamboo motif. Inside the top lid is a picture of the Japanese surrender at Tokyo Bay, September 2, 1945 aboard the U.S.S. Missouri battleship with a more extensive list of battles ot the Theater underneath. Inset to the felt is a silver plaque reading "WORLD WAR II / COMMEMORATIVE / Asiatic - Pacific Theater / DECEMBER 7, 1941 - SEPTEMBER 2, 1945," bordered in palm leaves. There is minimal wear on the exterior of the case (see photos). The pistol also includes one nickel-finished 7-round Colt magazine.
Assessment: This pistol is in pristine unhandled condition. There are no scratches dings or marks as would be expected of a new item. This beautiful Colt Commemorative Government Model 1911A1 pistol is number 1395 of 11,501 total manufactured in the PTO series. The low serial number and extrordinary condition of this pistol makes it highly desirable among collectors and enthusiasts. This Colt was manufactured in Feb. 1970. Although it has not yet reached it's 50th Anniversary, it is considered in the Relic/Curio Guideline by collectors. The pistol is in 100% condition as if it had just came from the factory. The wooden display case is nicely decorated with a bamboo motif of the area represented. With it's mirror nickel finish and engraving commemorating some of the most pivotal battles in the Pacific Theater of Operations during WWII, this is an amazing tribute to the contribution America has made to keep the world free.
