Description:
Listed for sale is a very nice Springfield Model 1816 Musket 2nd or 3rd style which was converted to Percussion sometime prior to the Civil War. Both the lock and the barrel are dated 1832. It is well proofed on both the stock which is in very nice condition and the barrel. It functions well in both the half cock and full cock position. The stock is solid with no cracks or repairs. Originally is was covered in a heavy black substance which had to be removed. The is stock is in very nice condition with the barrel showing pitting near the lock. The internal lock parts have also been cleaned and oiled. The bore is average with some corrosion and is a little dark.
An excellent example of a gun which could have seen a lot of action in the various wars to include the civil war. I have never fired this gun so if you have any thoughts of firing it please have it inspected by a good gunsmith.
