FRENCH RETAILER MARKED Antique S&W No. 3 Revolver
Smith & Wesson .44 Russian Single Action Revolver
Here we present an antique French Retailer Marked Smith & Wesson No. 3 Single Action Revolver in .44 S&W Russian, made circa the 1880s in Springfield, Massachusetts. This full-sized single action revolver was very well made and was strong competition for the likes of the Colt and Remington Single Action Army Revolvers. Even with the heavy pitting on this one the action remains glassy smooth.
The left side of the barrel is marked “FNI PAR L’CHOBERT ARQR 16 RUE LAFAYETTE PARIS”, a French firearms retailer. The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A. PAT’S JAN. 17 & 24. 65. JULY 11. 65/AUG 24. 69. APR. 20. 75 FEB. 20 & DEC 18 1877 REISSUE JULY 25 1871.”
The original blue finish is about 60% with extensive finish loss and pitting throughout, perhaps due to storage conditions. The markings are legible, though the retailer markings are in one of the areas of pitting. The serial numbers match. The walnut grips are in very good condition. The bore is sharp and bright. The action is excellent.
