Description:
This .75 caliber Prussian Model 1809 "Potsdam" musket has a tapered round 1-1/4" to 7/8" x 41" smooth bore barrel fitted with two blade front sights on the front barrel band. The bore is dark with scattered roughness and pits. Stamped on the top of the barrel is 705 and on the left side 1836(year of conversion), FW under a crown, 720 and more proof marks. The P+ grade European Beechwood stock is mounted with brass furniture, including sling swivels. The butt stock features a recessed cheek piece. All the brass furniture is stamped with matching assembly numbers. Stamped on the face of the butt plate is 1836 (year of conversion) and 124288, 18392 (rack numbers). An inspector's cartouche is stamped just behind the rear lock screw along with FW below a crown, 720, and an M below a crown. Another crown is stamped on the left side of the butt stock. With the exception of a splinter of wood missing behind the hammer and out of the lock mortise, the stock is sound with only the normal age related dents and scrapes. A large military Round Faced percussion lock with a crown, FW and Saarn inscribed on the plate, is activated by a single trigger. Comes complete with steel ramrod. Please Note: This musket was originally a flint lock that was converted to percussion in 1835. Heavy metal pitting is seen on the cup of the hammer, bolster and barrel adjoining the bolster. The muzzle is very worn and slightly flared. The middle barrel band retainer is broken off with a screw securing the band. We feel that the ramrod is an old replacement. Length of pull is 13", overall length is 56-1/2", weight is 8.4 lbs. Good wood to metal fit - German made. Condition: Good. Our stock number is P-28-89. Will ship anywhere in the United States. Buyer pays freight and insurance.
