Description:
This is a very nice all-matching and all-original World War 1 Luger made by Erfurt in 1918.  This Luger has managed to survive for 101 years without be modified or "improved" and has retained all of the original parts it left the factory with including the numbered grips.  The only numbered part that may or may not be original is the magazine, while it is the right type and age the numbers are worn off of the wooden bottom.  While there is no way for sure to know when this Luger was brought to the States, we know that it was likely used in the last part of World War 1 and could possibly have been used in WW2 as well.  It is not import marked, and most certainly was a U.S. soldier's war trophy from one of those two conflicts.  This Luger is in good 100% functional condition but shows some wear and tear expected of a combat used weapon that is over 100 years old.  The original factory blue finish shows some thinning in places and wear but has a nice even patina to it.  All of the high edges and places that contact the leather when in a holster show wear, and the finish on the grip straps has been worn away leaving the aged steel visible.  All of the original inspector's stamps and maker's marks are still nice and clear, as are all of the serial numbers stamped on the various parts.  The original "strawed" small parts still show some traces of the yellow finish in the protected areas, and the original factory white paint is still present in the stamping "Gesichert", visible with the safety lever in the "on" position.  The bore in this 1918 Luger is average, while it still has plenty of rifling showing there is shallow pitting in the grooves throughout the bore.  It should still shoot great but it isn't bright and shiny.  The original numbered grips on this pistol are in excellent condition overall.  Theyare both free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and they have nice clear factory serial numbers and proofs on the back of each grip.  The original checkering is still nice and clean without any major wear or handling marks.  We took this Luger completely down and verified all of the small parts are original and in excellent shape mechanically.  All of the functions on this Erfurt are in perfect working order.  The toggle action is still nice and strong and the trigger is good for a military-issue pistol.  As mentioned before, this Erfurt comes with one period original magazine and good working order.  This Luger would be the perfect choice for someone wanting a nice original example of this famous pistol for thier collection that they could both enjoy as an investment as well as a shooter.
