Description:
Winchester Model 1873 short rifle in 44 WCF with 22" octagon barrel, full mag, shotgun butt and set trigger. Serial # 86150 started life as a 38 WCF rifle with 34" round barrel, full mag & set trigger in April 1883. On October 2, 1911, it was factory changed to its present configuration per the factory records at the Cody Museum. Barrel and receiver are properly proofed and the barrel markings are on the left flat, correct for period of changeover. Barrel retains 95% original blue and bore is stone mint. Mag tube 60% thinning aged blue. Receiver 65% original toning blue. Set trigger and half cock safety both function properly. Original sights. Great action. Stocks sound, no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, normal dings and dents from use. Original widow's peak smooth shotgun butt plate intact. Traces of original case colors on hammer and lever. Also neat because it was made in the period when the factory was out of rifle receivers and used carbine receivers to build rifles, as evidenced by the 2 factory-filled saddle ring holes on the left side of the receiver. Awesome little short rifle to collect and shoot!!
