Vintage Winchester Model 54 High Power Sporter chambered in 30-06 Springfield. Winchester's first high powered sporting rifle based on the Mauser 98 action, the Model 54 was the predecessor of the Pre-64 Model 70. This rifle features a 24" barrel, 5 shot capacity, checkered walnut stock with schnabel forend, and factory installed Lyman 48 receiver sight. The rifle also has an early and rare Griffin & Howe single lever quick release scope mount. The vintage scope is an A Series Lyman Alaskan 2-3/4X scope with fine cross hairs, and an R.A. Litschert 6X magnification booster attached. This combination of accessories makes for a very unique Pre-War American sporting rifle. The condition of the rifle is very fine with approximately 90% of the original finish remaining. The scope mount has been professinal installed (possibly by Griffin & Howe), and the bore is bright with sharp rifling. There are a few pits on the underside of the barrel near the muzzle, but the remainder of the metal work is very clean. The scope's glass is a little dim but clear, and functions as it should. The Griffin & Howe mount locks down tight with zero play. This is a very cool old rifle with a lot of extras.
