Description:
Antique Winchester Model 1873 rifle. Standard configuration of 24" octagon barrel, full magazine and crescent butt. Confirmed by factory records and shipped in August 1887. Barrel and mag exhibit 70% plum finish with hints of brighter blue. Receiver 50% same. Some minor, light surface pitting on dust cover and upper edges of receiver. Stocks show typical dings and wear. "Sam Baker" lightly scratched in 1/4" letters on butt stock near butt plate on shooter's right. No extra holes and never refinished. All original parts including the sights. Trap door moves freely, no cleaning rods present. Average bore with plenty of rifling but also typical black powder fouling and a couple of areas of deeper pitting about 1/2 way down the barrel; nothing that should affect accuracy. Tight action and properly working half cock safety. Mag tube tight. Good representative piece.
