Description:
The Smith & Wesson Model 39 automatic pistol is certainly a true American classic.  First introduced in 1954, the Model 39 was the very first factory produced SA/DA semi-automatic pistol made in the U.S. The S&W Model 39 was a great success, quickly earning a reputation for being very well made, reliable, and accurate.  This model was made for many years until being redesigned with a lightweight alloy frame in 1970, when the model name was changed to the Model 39-2.  The 39-2 was made for another 12 years until being discontinued in 1982.  This particular pistol is a 1970's vintage Model 39-2, serial number A272930.  It is in great shape and is 100% original.  It is obvious that this 39-2 has lived a very easy life for the last 40 plus years.  The original factory blue finish is still beautiful and shows only some small spots of surface corrosion near the muzzle (pictured).  The black factory finish on the alloy frame is still bright and beautiful on this Smith which is really nice as this finish typically shows wear easily.  There is some high-edge wear and some tiny nicks in it, but nothing that detracts much from the attractive look of this pistol.  The original checkered Walnut grips are in great shape.  Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and the factory S&W medallions are still intact.  The checkering on both grips still have lots of grip to them and there is no soiling down in the recesses.  This 39-2 is in perfect working order and all of the controls work 100% like the day this gun left the factory.  The slide works very smoothly when worked by hand, and there is no excessive play or slop between the slide and frame.  This S&W Model 39-2 comes with one original factory 8-round magazine.  If you have been looking for a neat new Smith & Wesson pistol for your collection this vintage Model 39-2 would be a great choice.  With proper care it could be enjoyed at the range and still be an excellent long-term investment.
