Description:
SOLD. ....Antique 1873 Saddle Ring carbine 44-40. A very good 1873 Winchester SRC. In the very sought after 44-40 caliber. This a later antique carbine with S/N 504269 and made in 1896. Has the standard 20” round barrel. The bore is a very good shootable bore. Has strong rifling all the way through and still has a little shine along with the scattered minor roughness from black powder. NO big pits or craters and NO rings or bulges. Very well above average bore for a SRC as most of these have seen a lot of hard use and are very badly pitted.. Still shoots as good as any of these in this caliber. Mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. The metal is very good and is smooth with no pitting and is a dark brown patina. Never any attempts to clean on or mess with. Just the way you love to find these. Still has traces of blue in the more protected areas around the rear sight and lower tang.. The face of the hammer has most all the case colors showing very vivid and bright. The markings are excellent throughout as you can see. Has the original saddle ring on the receiver and the original dust cover. The cover is loose as I am sure the spring is missing or broken as is very common. It still retracts with the lever throw. The screw heads are all very good and nothing burred up from tinkering or being monkeyed with. Has the original ladder type carbine rear sight and front sight. The wood is good. The forearm is very nice and is much better than the butt stock. It fits tight and proud to the receiver but has the very common grain split on the front end were the wood is very thin in this area. NO other cracks or splits and never sanded on or messed with in any way. Just some very minor honest light dings and scratches. The butt stock is undersized at the upper and lower tangs and at the receiver and butt plate. Looks like it has seen a lot of use but no sanding marks and no splits or cracks. It is what it is … The wood still has great color and it not all oil soaked and stained. Not a bad ole 73 carbine and just shows some honest use and wear to the stock but is still a very solid gun. As you all know, most of these carbines were very heavily used guns and have terrible bores and weak markings. This one is worth the asking price and still has a lot of life left in it. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 for more photos or any questions. Thank you for looking at my listings and check back often as I have many more to get listed soon. Sorry I have to say this but,,, Shoot at your own risk as I will not be liable for the lack of knowledge on loading and shooting any antique firearm.
