Description:
Rare Colt 1862 Pocket of Navy Caliber, originally 36 caliber percussion, factory conversion to 38 Rimfire and shipped in 1875. Only 2000 of these were produced and obviously not all have survived. This is a Type 4 conversion as noted by the 4.5" octagon barrel and lack of loading gate on frame. Overall the original blue and case-hardened finish has turned a deep plum with bright blue showing underneath in the protected areas of the barrel and frame. May clean better if desired. Brass strap and trigger guard have mellowed to mustard and darkened in some spots. About 70% of the original cylinder scene is visible. Excellent bore, bright and shiny, strong rifling, only a couple of very minor spots of pitting. Numbers match on grip, frame, trigger guard, barrel, cylinder and arbor. Wedge is mismatched, common with the conversions since they were trying to use up parts on hand. Very tight barrel to frame fit. Cylinder has a little bit of play when static but action is strong and indexes perfectly every time. Excellent example of a rare factory Colt conversion.
