Description:
An exceptional example of the scarce Remington Elliot four barrel 'Ring Trigger' derringer in .32 rim fire caliber. This type derringer has a break open action for loading & unloading. Extraction of spent cartridge cases is done by hand. The pistol is fired by a single pull of the ring trigger which activates a circular firing pin and hammer - four shots can be discharged by four operations of the trigger.

E. Remington & Sons produced their .32 rf 'Ring Trigger' derringer from 1863 - 1888. Total production of .32 caliber models is estimated at 17,000. This pistol is interesting in being a very early example of its type with serial number # 392 stamped inside the Frame below the barrel cluster and may well have seen service in the Civil War. These pistols were popular in their period and today it is difficult to find an excellent condition example.

CONDITION: This derringer is in excellent original condition. The metal surfaces retain 96%+ original nickel plate finish with slight aging and attractive patina. The mainspring/operating lever behind the trigger and action unlocking lever retain nearly all of their original blued finish. Mechanical functions are excellent and the bores are very fine with sharp rifling, some shine, and some raised storage rust. The original grips are beautiful and in excellent condition with lovely patina.

This is an exceptional example of it's type for collectors of Remington arms, derringers, and Western arms. Provenance: I purchaded this pistol from C. W. Slagle in 1993. C.W. was a well known collector, dealer, and gentleman. "The Rock island of 4/30/2010 featured the estate of  C.W.Slagle, the sale's success was no surprise: Slagle’s derringers, palm pistols and curio type firearms drew attention. C. W. Slagle was well known in the firearms world as a collector of the unusual.
