Description:
The Erfurt firm was a large producer of Lugers and military arms both before and during World War 1.  This is a very fine example of an all-matching 1918 dated Luger (P-08) made by Erfurt that comes complete with one matching magazine, a unit marked holster dated 1918, and an extra commercial-type magazine.  The original factory blue finish rates 93% plus, with the deductions coming from some high-edge and holster wear and handling marks.  Nothing stands out too much or detracts from the nice attractive appearance of this Luger.  The small parts that were factory strawed still show some nice yellow finish, with just some very minor finish wear and evidence of prior surface rust.  The bore is in really good condition overall.  It still shows some nice defined rifling with only some minor frosting in the grooves.  The original factory checkered Walnut grips are in excellent condition.  They are free from cracks, chips, or repairs.  They are factory serial numbered to the gun and the checkering is still clean and crisp.  As mentioned earlier this Erfurt has one original wood bottom magazine with it that is numbered to the gun which is a real scarcity for a gun 100 years old.  It is in excellent shape with plenty of spring pressure for function.  The holster with this Luger is really cool.  It is a 1918 dated example from "Chultz & Co." and it is unit marked on the top flap with " 7.K. N.1180".  This gives it some real history and leaves no doubt to whether this rig was issued and used in WW1.  The holster is in good shape overall with nice soft and pliable leather and intact and tight original stitching.  There are 2 negatives that we can find with this holster, the first is that the tool pouch lid stitching is torn, and the second is the lifting strap is missing. Ouside of those two things the holster is in remarkable condition for being issued and used 100 years ago.  It is obvious that this holster has been cared for and conditioned over the years.  There is an extra magazine with this rig but it is a commercial magazine made in Denmark.  It is not a WW1 original but it is well-made and functional, and it certainly is the magazine you should use rather than the original if you plan to shoot this Luger.  If you have been looking for a nice honest and original WW1 Luger to add to your collection this Erfurt 1918 would be a superb choice.
